A new group programme

The Pain of the World

From reflection to courage and action – a closed group

A space to meet the pain of the world without letting helplessness be the endpoint. Together we explore what is happening around us and what it calls forth in us.

A slower space

A small group for the big questions

The Pain of the World is a small, closed group of 6–8 people meeting regularly around the great questions of our time. We do not need to agree or share a particular conviction. We practise an honest, slow inquiry with room for doubt, reflection and what we do not yet know.

We linger with what moves in the world and in us. We share what we see, feel and understand, without rushing. We explore what we can stand for and take responsibility for. We let a possible action emerge for each person.

Themes we may explore: The war in Europe · Energy, consumption and electric cars · Spirit and materialism · Loneliness and isolation · The power of media · AI and what it means to be human

Why I am starting the group

I feel a sense of helplessness when I look at the pain and major crises shaping the world. At the same time, I experience reflection as a way out of the paralysis where we either turn away or feel unable to do anything.

The group grows out of a journey of reflection and an impulse I encountered through Moral Ambition: a wish to use one's life for something that matters. Not as a ready-made answer, but as an invitation to find the courage to act in one's own way.

What the group is not

  • A debate club or political group.
  • A movement with a shared line.
  • A therapy programme.

The space is free from political, religious and other prescriptive beliefs. Any action that follows belongs to each person.
